Highland Games are a rich Scottish tradition that has been around for hundreds of years, and the Blairgowrie Highland Games make for a great day out for all the family. The annual event takes place at Bogles Field in Blairgowrie, and this year will be taking place on Sunday 6th September 2020.
Doors open at 10 am for a day packed full of traditional Highland Games, local food, and arts and crafts stalls. Located in the beautiful area of Perthshire, the Blairgowrie Highland Games see crowds of both locals and tourists flock to the much-anticipated event every year.
What’s On At Blairgowrie Highland Games 2020
The popular event is back for another year in 2020, and once again visitors can enjoy the fun of traditional Scottish Highland Games. Various competitors from across the country will be heading to Blairgowrie for the fierce and competitive events.
Heavyweight and tug o’ war events are an excellent spectator sport for all the family to enjoy. There will also be the community tug o’ war between Blairgowrie and Rattray, which is sure to see some friendly competitive rivalry amongst the locals.
There will be running, cycling and various races for all ages to take part in and watch, including some events from local schools. Highland dancing will take place throughout the day, with local children sporting the traditional dress for the occasion. Visitors will be entertained throughout the day by Scottish pipe bands playing traditional music, and there will also be a piping competition for solos.
Visitors and competitors can test their strength at the Ardblair Stones, and other events such as heavy events, track and field, and hill races will also take place throughout the day.
Dog lovers will enjoy the Staffie Smiles Dog Show which will take place at the Blairgowrie Highland Games this year. It will see a mix of pedigree and fun competitions for all the family. As well as all this, there will also be various local traders selling clothing, gifts and arts and crafts. Local food vendors will be on hand to feed the crowds with some delicious traditional delicacies.
