Blairgowrie Walks

Blairgowrie is a stunning area with picturesque countryside and beautiful rolling hills and farmland that are renowned for the growing of soft fruits. It is no surprise that Blairgowrie is home to some beautiful walking routes and trails that many keen walkers flock to regularly.

Located in the very heart of Perthshire, no matter which route you take in Blairgowrie, you are sure to find some stunning surroundings and wonderful walks. The path network in the area leaves wanderers spoilt for choice, and whether you choose the Ardblair Trail and Bluebell Woods, Cargill’s Leap and the Knockie, or Drimmie Wood, you are sure to be in for a treat.

The Ardblair Trail and Bluebell Woods
During the Springtime, Bluebell wood becomes one of the best locations in Perthshire to see the stunning carpets of bluebells. This trail is a lovely circular route that starts in Blairgowrie and adventures through the wonderful fertile countryside; a wildlife-filled woods and two small lochs.

These two routes together make a comfortable 6-mile walk that takes about two and a half hours to complete. The Bluebell Wood follows a trail of good level paths but be aware some sections are uneven. The Ardblair Trail features some gentle gradients and level paths, making it perfect for walkers of any ability.

Cargill’s Leap and the Knockie
This varied circular route follows the beginning of The Cateran Trail and offers beautiful views over Blairgowrie to the Sidlaw Hills and beyond. The 3-mile route follows the River Ericht upstream, past waterfalls, old mills and woodlands. Fairly early on into this trail is Cargill’s Leap and a viewing platform down to the river below. The Knockie Walk is fairly level, but there are some steep steps by the Cuttle Burn and to the Knockie summit.

Drimmie Wood
Drimmie Wood is a beautiful woodland just outside of Blairgowrie, and it is packed full of fast-growing Sitka spruce that is used for timber production. This 4-mile walking route in the woods is an adventure through various hardwood trees and an abundance of wildlife. The circular route of Drimmie Wood follows an ancient drove road that was once used to move cattle from the Highlands towards the south.
